Subject / Object

Something I am finding very interesting now is time. What is it?

Recently I came across a physics experiment. Take an atom and excite the electrons. Excite (put energy into) the electron and it relocates into a higher orbit. It doesn’t just travel, physically, from one orbit to another, it disappears and then reappears in a new orbit.. This ‘shift’ has been called the Quantum State.

Due to my interest in the Buddhist teachings I equate the Quantum State with The True Nature of mind.

One of the teachings ask us to rest in the True Nature of Mind (? aka the Quantum State)

I do not believe that this true nature of mind is knowable. I also believe that we have experienced this often with realising it.

Recall, if you can, a moment where you were so lost in a task that time appeared to stop time. Time started up again when you became conscious of the world beyond the task.

In deep meditative states there is no longer a subject / object, meaning there is no one observing the meditative state. Without an observer there is no time, only when the observer returns does time start up again.

So, what happens to time? Did it still pass even though you were not aware of it passing? Or did your ‘mind’ quickly re-establish a sense of time?

Perhaps time, as we understand it, is simply a construct of our mind, created to make sense of a reality in which nothing that we imagined is actually ‘real’. Reality is another construct that we observe and create, on a moment by moment basis, due to the interaction between our nervous system and an information ‘field’.

So, perhaps the Quantum State, or The True Nature of Mind is closer to reality than the construct we currently believe to be real.

Resting in the True Nature of Mind, from a Buddhist perspective, is to remain in a place where there is no observer, no time.

I also suspect that in this state, any impulse, any desire, any fear is a transmission of energy into the sea of infinite possibilities. This impulse creates a ‘reality’.

The challenge would be remaining consciousness of the impulse. As, in the Quantum State there can be no observer. This has been demonstrated time and time again as reality only comes into existence when it is observed.

Without a discerning mind, or a discriminating consciousness there can be no one who is aware of the impulse, the consciousness then becomes a victim to that impulse, falling into the ‘reality’ that it has created.

To truly rest in The True Nature of Mind is to remain without desire, to remain without fear, and to rest without seeking anything!

I recently saw a short video by Dolores Cannon, where she said, when you die do not go into the light. This appears to be contrary to all previous teachings.

Yet imagine, death of the body is an opportunity to remain in that true nature of mind, to break free of the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. Going towards and into the light is a desire for more, to see loved ones again. No matter the reason, going into the light is a strong impulse that is going to create another reality.

Now, IF any of this is ‘true’ then it can get really interesting and perhaps challenge many current concepts of the world we live in.

IF we live in a world of information (The Matrix, A Computer Simulation, The Holoverse) and IF we are creating our reality moment by moment, then it would follow that we already exist in the Quantum State, or the True Nature of Mind, yet we do not ‘rest’ there, instead we are continually inputting ‘impulses’ that create a continual ‘movie’ that becomes our reality.

I use a roll of unedited Super 8 Film to demonstrate this in workshops. Each frame of the film is a product of the previous frame. One arises from the other. So, if the ‘actor’ follows the script and continues to deliver the lines and expect a certain outcome, that impulse alone is enough to recreate the world they live in.

And here we are, and here we will remain unless something changes. Even when something changes, that will lead to another state of being. These multiple realities, in Buddhist terms, are Bardo’s aka Realms of Becoming. States that arise as a result of the charge (impulse) put into the True Nature of Mind.

To rest without inputting any charge is the challenge. If we use this life’s experience to recognised that we are the products of charge, then we begin to see that we can reduce the charge, thereby changing the Bardo. Eventually, when no charge exists, remaining in The True Nature of Mind will be a natural consequence.

And this is where our more advanced week long programs is heading..
